My Minimalist Bedroom

I’m an avid re-designer of my space because it’s highly important for me to live in a peaceful atmosphere. Over the last couple months, I had the opportunity to re-design my room from scratch with all new furniture, yahhh! The sudden spark of creativity emerged because I was having a hard time sitting still, so what better time to start changing things around.

Though I enjoyed the process, it was definitely a challenge. After many failed attempts to design a room according to a theme, I thought it would be smarter to research furniture pieces, take photos of them and create a collage. I decided to use this method on an app I normally use for styling, called Smart Closet. Using Smart Closet allowed me to really plan things out and achieve the “Japandi” style look I was going for, without mistakenly buying items that did not fit my vision.

Overall, the entire process gave me some much needed mental relief and I absolutely love my new room. Below is my initial collage and what I ended up purchasing.

Affordability, natural materials, texture and clean lines were very important to me when I was looking for pieces to purchase.

*First collage design made on Smart Closet.
World Market Geometric Tufted Wool Arch Area Rug | $99.99

I really wanted a cream rug to be the foundation of this room and dictate the color scheme. I love this geometric rug, it fit perfectly in my room. It was only $99.99, unfortunately World Market no longer sells this color online, but I included a photo below of the rust color, that is just as gorgeous.

World Market Rust Geometric Tufted Wool Arch Area Rug | $99.99
Wayfair Harlow Solid Wood Platform Bed | $151.80

Low profile beds are a consistent theme I see throughout Japanese inspired bedrooms. Because, my room is small I opted for this low platform bed to create an illusion of space and I love that there is something calming about a bed that is either on the floor or close to it.

ZARA HOME NATURAL LINEN BEDSPREAD | $199 (Double Size)

Japandi style is all about natural materials and linen is a great way to achieve that raw look. I love this bedspread; it covers my entire bed, and the material feels amazing on my skin. This bedspread is super helpful when you want your bed to always look made.

Target Thousand Oaks Wood Scalloped End Table with Drawers – Threshold™ designed with Studio McGee | $200

It was a must for me to have storage in my side tables. I do not have a lot of storage areas in my room, so I had to be strategic in choosing pieces that were not just beautiful but functional. I love the face of this side table; it brings another element of design to the room.

World Market Natural Wood Sierra Table Lamp Base | $59.99

I choose this table lamp because I love the natural wood, grainy look. Although it has a simple design, it is bold enough to add value to theme of the room.

Target Distressed Ceramic Vase Natural White – Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia | $24.99

Decor! I’m not a huge fan of adding a bunch of decor in a space, but I do understand that it can really complete a look. This color softly compliments the carpet and other colors in the room. I styled this vase on my bed side table.

IKEA BAGGEBO Cabinet with door | $32.99

I purchased this little cabinet because I needed storage at an affordable price. I would say it’s definitely leaning on the Scandanavian side of Japandi. I was also able to add some decor on the top of it, which really tied things together.

ZARA HOME DECORATED WOOD MIRROR | $159

I’ve always wanted this mirror, and even though it steps outside my Japandi theme, the color matches beautifully with the room. I styled this on top of the IKEA white cabinet.

Target Dauntless Curtain Rod – Project 62™ | $36

This rod was simple enough in design to match nicely with the theme and who doesn’t love gold.

Target Curtains

I can no longer find these curtains on Target, but they’re a texturized cream color. They play well with the other whites, and tans. I wanted the curtains to be very minimal because they take up a huge part of the wall. It’s important to include different fabrics and textures throughout the space, so things don’t fall flat.

IKEA MICKE Desk | $89

Love this cute little desk from IKEA. Now I know it’s not the most stylish desk, but it’s functional, affordable and small enough to fit in my space. Storage was another reason I choose this desk. I utilized it for jewelry, lotions, perfumes, etc.

Target Pacific Ridge Pillow Back Upholstered Anywhere Chair Cream – Threshold™ designed with Studio McGee | $350

A little of a splurge with this chair, but I love it! The color and texture fit perfectly in front of my IKEA desk and it’s very comfortable to sit/work at.
