Step 4: Create an affirmation

Repeating an affirmation to yourself over and over again ex. “Less is more” “I am enough” or “Today I will be intentional about…”, will motivate you on your journey to becoming a minimalist.

Affirmations help remind us why we’re making such a major change in our lives. We can even take it a step further and post the affirmation on a sticky note, somewhere we know we’ll look everyday, (bathroom mirror or car) to keep it at the forefront of our minds. This is a practice we still try everyday and even if we forget, we just pick things back up where we left off the next day. This step is all about the intention of embarking on something new and creating positive habits to keep us going.

Affirmations like “I am enough” also keep us in check when we have an urge to go out and buy more stuff, just for the sake of buying it. Trust we’ve been there, but reminding ourselves that we are valuable whether we have things or not really changed our perspective and can change yours too.
